Magnolia stellata Star Magnolia is a deciduous shrub native to Japan, reaching 2.5-3m tall. It is fully frost hardy (to -15°C) and produces fragrant, star-shaped white flowers in early spring before the leaves emerge. Prefers full sun to partial shade, thriving in well-drained, acidic to neutral soil with regular moisture. Mulching helps retain moisture. Although hardy, it is not tolerant of strong coastal winds and should be planted in sheltered spots. Its dark green leaves turn yellow-bronze in autumn. Ideal for small gardens, providing early-season elegance and fragrance.
