For some time we have had our biggest seller, Griselinia littoralis, available for sale on a discounted pallet deal – our discounted rate for 50 five litre plants and FREE delivery to any mainland UK address. We then extended our offer to the darker leaved Griselinia Green Horizon, and now, we’re extending it to the baby of the family too…the Griselinia Redge pallet deal!
More on Redge…
Griselinia littoralis Redge is a ‘dwarf’ version of the standard Griselinia littoralis. It is more shrubby growing than the standard variety, but also makes a fantastic hedge with its good branching habit and strong healthy, disease resistant roots.
It is of course an evergreen with attractive glossy green leaves like its larger relative and will put on a steady 30cm of growth each year if fed with a decent slow release fertiliser – perfect for a lower hedge or in smaller gardens. It is also an excellent option for planting on a Cornish wall, withstanding salt-laden winds in all but the most exposed locations. It is certainly a great choice for coastal locations set back a few hundred feet from the seafront, or in more sheltered estuaries and inlets.
It is reported hardy down to at least -10°C like the standard Griselinia, and is possibly even hardier with its smaller leaf. We haven’t been put to the test with temperatures lower than that down here for some time (thankfully!)
Ideal height: 1-2m
Growth rate: 30cm a year
Position & planting: plant 40-90cm/18inches-3ft apart from one another, in a well drained, fertile soil in sun-part shade
Perfect for… a dense low(ish!) hedge/planting on a Cornish wall near the sea, or inland
