Assistant Garden Nursery Manager
We are seeking an Assistant Nursery Manager to join our team. This is a very exciting role with a variety of responsibilities. You will assist the Nursery Manager in ensuring that the nursery stock is grown to the highest quality. You will be liaising with members of the team to ensure everyone is working efficiently in all areas, including stock management and wastage. You will be a key link between the Nursery Team and the Garden Centre teams.
You:
This role is perfect for an enthusiastic team player looking to take on Management duties. Previous experience in commercial horticulture would be an advantage. You will be responsible for helping the Nursery Manager oversee many areas within the business and must be confident leading and motivating the team. It will be a very hands-on, outdoors role, so you must be prepared to get stuck in and help the teams with daily tasks.
The Role:
• To support the Nursery Manager in fulfilling the nursery growing and production plans
• Supervising and helping with the growing team duties to include weeding, irrigation, feeding, pruning, disease and pest control. Also ensure all records are maintained and updated
• Whilst keeping quality in mind, this is a commercial business where you need to work efficiently
• Creating a culture of continuous improvement
Key Skills:
This is a hands-on role and you will be working with your team to drive forward the performance of production.
• Skilled and experienced in plant care and maintenance tasks
• Ideally you will have some experience in horticulture
• Due to the size and quantity of plants grown, you will need to be physically fit
• You must be prepared to work outside in a range of weather conditions
• PA1 & PA6 certificates desirable
• Forklift Ticket desirable
• Clean full UK Driving Licence Essential
• Horticultural qualifications desirable
• Enthusiasm to increase knowledge base of Botanic plant names (Latin)
• Hands on approach and the ability to work in all weather conditions is essential
• The ability to motivate people, good communication and interpersonal skills are essential
• Strong organisational skills and planning on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
• You should possess the ability to work on your own initiative. In addition, contribute good ideas and be solution driven
• Good team player
• Courtesy and professionalism are expected at all times both with colleagues and the discerning customer/client base

Plant Nursery Assistant
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Plant Nursery Assistant to join our horticultural team at our nurseries to help ensure that the nursery stock is grown to the highest quality. Our nurseries span across 35 acres so there is never a shortage of plants that need tending and jobs that need completing.
Main Duties:
• Carrying out roles as required to produce plants in our nursery
• Operating nursery machinery such as potting machine, seeder & transplanting machine
• Offloading deliveries and movement of stock and plant materials around the nurseries
• General maintenance and plant care – could include watering & irrigation, weeding, pruning, propagation, cleaning etc
• Labelling of products
• Grading and sorting plants as required
• Pest and disease control in polytunnels, and across wider nurseries and garden centre. Could include spraying, biological pest control and rodent control
• General maintenance and repairs to fences, tunnels, irrigation and working areas
• Supporting the Nursery Manager and the rest of the team with jobs and duties as required
The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation.
Requirements:
• The successful applicant will need to have the ability to work in all weathers, have a positive can-do attitude, good level of fitness and a willingness to learn and progress
• A driving license is essential for the role, as the plants require moving around the Nursery and down to the Garden Centre
• A forklift licence and spraying qualification are required. However, consideration will be given to the right candidate who would be willing to commit to the training if they do not currently possess these qualifications
• Some plant knowledge and horticultural experience would be helpful, but not essential, as training will be given
The position is a 40hr week with the opportunity for overtime during busy periods, working Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm, with 1 hour unpaid (30 minutes for lunch and two 15-minute breaks). During the spring months you will be required to work on a Saturday on a rota basis, this can be taken as a day in lieu or as additional pay.

Junior Retail Assistant – Sunday
Trevena Cross is a family-owned business, providing a huge range of fantastic products. We have a large indoor and outdoor plant area, sundries department and giftware. We are now looking for a passionate candidate to assist our weekend team. We are offering a part-time position working every Sunday. The hours are from 9am to 5pm with 1 hour unpaid (half hour lunch and two 15-minute breaks) which will be staggered between the staff to ensure there is cover.
Duties Include:
· Serving customers in an efficient and timely manner
· Answering the phone directing customer queries where required, taking orders for delivery etc
· Unpacking, checking orders received, pricing and organising stock
· Reporting faulty/damaged goods to an appropriate work colleague
· Checking/updating retail prices to make sure they are correctly displayed and up to date
· Creating attractive, innovative and inviting shop displays
· Stock control and stock rotation where required
· Keeping the shop areas clean and tidy and free from any potential hazards.
· Supporting the Garden Centre Manager, Mail Order Manager, Owner and the rest of the team with ad hock duties as required
· Sweeping up in areas and ensuring all display areas are kept tidy

Garden Centre Retail Assistant
We are looking for an enthusiastic team player to join a friendly and hard-working workforce here at Trevena Cross. This is a seasonal position but could potentially lead to a permanent position. We are offering a full-time position covering 5 days a week (Tuesday to Saturday). There may be additional days to cover i.e. holidays etc. The hours are from 9am to 5pm with 1 hour unpaid (half hour lunch and two 15 minute breaks)
The Role:
• Serving customers in an efficient and friendly manner
• Unpacking, organising and pricing stock
• Merchandising duties, creating attractive, innovative, and inviting shop displays
• First line telephone contact, speaking to customers/suppliers and channeling queries to the appropriate department
• Supporting the Garden Centre Manager and the rest of the team with ad hoc duties as required
Key Skills:
• Previous retail/merchandising experience required, preferably across a mixed product range
• Excellent people/customer service skills
• Work well under pressure and is a team player
• Good maths skills for handling cash/epos transactions
• Highly driven, keen to progress and make the role their own and help the business grow
• Be proactive and take own initiative and assist colleagues and customers to ensure smooth day to day running of the company
• Horticultural knowledge would be preferred but not essential
