Breage’s Wildlife Haven

It’s no secret that the nursery at Trevena Cross is responsible for growing many thousands of plants each year, but perhaps less well known is the fact that it’s a habitat to thousands of birds and animals. A huge variety of wildlife has set up home in the nursery and in owner Graham’s garden. Birds alone, Graham often sees and hears Sparrows, Robins, Tits, Jays, Wrens, Goldfinches, Greenfinches, even Buzzards and other birds of prey. But one recent quiet Friday while working in his garden, Graham caught something very special on camera…

Baby Tawny Owl at Trevena Cross

This baby Tawny Owl sat and watched Graham work, offering a fantastic photo opportunity. Graham put up a tawny owl nest box and a barn owl nest box a couple of winters back, not really expecting them to be used, but not only have they been used, they’ve provided us with rare, very special sightings like this! Nest boxes really do work, so if you’d like to attract nature’s miracle into your own garden, why not give it a go, what have you got to lose? The BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) have some great tips for siting your nest box; and for help getting hold of one? Well, we might be able to help!….
