While Griselinia hedging has become more widely known and readily available in recent years, Griselinia Redge remains  an evergreen, compact grower with attractive glossy green leaves, offset by dark coloured leaf stalks and stems. It could be considered more shrubby growing than the standard variety, but also makes a fantastic hedge with its better branching and strong healthy roots, resistant to disease. Slower growing than the standard it grows around 30cm a year, and is therefore a great one for a lower hedge, smaller garden or even container cultivation.

It is reported hardy down to around -10°C, and will withstand salt laden winds on the seafront in sheltered or enclosed estuaries like St. Mawes and Falmouth in Cornwall, but in exposed positions will need to be positioned several hundred feet from the sea. For extremely exposed coastal sites like Land’s End, and Lizard Point in Cornwall, we would recommend the tougher Olearia traversii Compacta over Griselinia littoralis Redge, although Griselinia is a super choice for most locations.
