Bottlebrush-like flowers attract bees

A New Zealand Protea (max height 7m/23ft, max spread 2m/6.5ft), that forms an almost columnar evergreen tree. It has long narrow, pointed, leathery leaves and rusty red bottlebrush-like racemes in spring and summer, which are very attractive to bees and butterflies. Its flowers are followed by unusual looking seed pods. It should be planted in a reasonably well drained soil in sun or partial shade, and requires protection from hard frosts, especially when young. Available in a large 4ltr pot.
