Agapanthus Castle of May

Rich blue, trumpet shaped flowers

This deciduous Agapanthus (height 60cm/2ft, spread 45cm/1.5ft) has rich blue, trumpet shaped flowers forming open clusters on top of slender but sturdy stems. This rises from amongst the clumps of slender strap-like foliage in mid-summer. It enjoys full sun but will tolerate partial shade. it likes free draining soil and is ideal for borders and patio containers.

Variations

Agapanthus Jack's Blue
A new hardy vigorous long flowering hybrid from New Zealand with prolific deep purple/blue flowers forming a ball of colour on 1.5m/4.9ft tall stems from July to October. It should be planted in a well drained soil in full sun, or can be grown in tubs and pots.

Agapanthus Glenavon
An evergreen variety (height 1m/3.3ft, spread 50cm/1.6ft) with huge flowerheads made up of blue florets, with dark stripes on the petals. Thrives in a well drained soil in full sun or partial shade.
