Easily transportable and great for small gardens, this smaller sized Trachycarpus fortunei is available to buy in our online shop.
Also known as a Chusan Palm, this very hardy evergreen palm will provide a wonderful sub-tropical look. It forms an un-branched, single stemmed hairy trunk with large fan shaped dark green leaves, and has panicles of small yellow flowers in early summer, followed by blue-black fruit in the autumn.
It makes an excellent specimen palm for courtyards and tropical looking gardens, and should be planted in good, well drained fertile soil in full sun or dappled shade. The large leaves can get damaged in very exposed gardens, but will re-grow fresh leaves the following season.
Feed with a good fertiliser like Trevena Cross slow release fertiliser, and it will also grow well in large tubs and pots. In really exposed gardens use Trachycarpus wagnerianus instead.
As this is a fairly slow growing variety it is best to buy the height you require. Definitely the hardiest palm available, hardiness - -15 to -18oC.
