Why so few Cornish varieties? - A question we get asked.
As with our entire fruit selection, our apple trees are selected according to their suitability to the climate, their disease resistance and of course their taste. We stock limited Cornish varieties as we have cherry picked only the very best tasting. We believe other (non-Cornish) varieties taste far superior to many of the Cornish ones, and so these are selected instead.
We have a very extensive range of freshly potted maiden (£19.50) and two year old apple trees from £24.95, available at Trevena Cross Nurseries. We have a variety of rootstocks ranging from small trees, approx. 2-3m tall, up to large trees up to approx. 4m tall. We also stock a few trained trees - (note Espalier tree prices are higher @£39.00).
All of these have been initially grown and pre-tested in owner Graham's orchard, before being selected for growth based on production of an abudance of fantastic tasting fruits, as well as their suitability for growing in Cornish conditions, and their resistance to common diseases such as canker and scab.
