Indocalamus tessellatus

Indocalamus tessellatus

Small but special, this is a bamboo for all to enjoy

A small, very hardy, special Chinese bamboo species (height to about 1.5-2m/4.9-6.5ft) that doesn't run excessively, and therefore can be managed by the average gardener. Its distinct large, long spear shaped leaves (which have the potential to reach up to 50cm long) bend its narrow culms into a mound shape, making it more compact than its true size. It has an appearance that could be mistaken with our popular Pseudosasa Japonica to the untrained eye, due to the characteristically large leaves and few large branches. It will grow in most situations but should be sheltered from severe wind.
