Akebia Quinata Silver Bells (Chocolate Vine) is a great hardy semi-evergreen climber (height up to 10m/32ft) which is very vigorous and will quickly cover a trellis, fence or old tree stump. If unsupported it will also quickly spread as ground cover. Its lovely bright green leaves (tinged purple in winter) compliment the unusual but beautiful, fragrant maroon-chocolate flowers borne in the spring. If two are planted together, cross pollination should produce a weird sausage shaped pink or blue skinned fruit! It should be planted in full sun, supported against a wall or fence, in a free draining soil.
